Best Carrot Cake Ever!

Good morning world how are you today? Yesterday I had a good day at work but to be honest I always do, I love my job and especially my great new boss who is an extraordinary woman and whom I have the greatest respect for.  The rest of our all female team are also fantastic, intelligent women in their own right and we all work really well together.   This is actually amazing as this time last year I was having many problems in the company and really wanted out.  (That's is definitely for another day but my close friends and family know all about traumatic time I had which still brings shivers down my spine when I think about it).
Anyway, moving on.  Unfortunately, we recently lost a wonderful member of the team but she left to start a new chapter in her life.  Her and her husband are about to become parents for the first time, therefore she has decided to be a full time mum. This is quite a rarity in the Middle East as usually a successful career woman starts her maternity leave the minute she goes into labour and returns 40 short days later, usually after hiring a full time nanny to look after their newborn. I take my hat off to my lovely friend and wish her all the best in the world. Time with a child of any age is precious and shouldn't be wasted.  I'm also looking forward to attending my first baby shower in a couple of weeks which I am sure you will hear about in a blogg.

Best Carrot Cake Ever!
So, I got into work yesterday and the team had gathered together to celebrate my birthday with a birthday breakfast. They also celebrated another member of our teams' birthday which was at the end of January, but being a little shy she had kept it quiet (bless her).   None of us knew as we are quite a new team and have only worked together for 9 months. Although our newest member only joined 3 weeks ago.

The breakfast was lovely, with lots of fresh fruit, cookies, croissants and the best homemade carrot cake ever, courtesy of the newest member (we love her even more now we know she makes fabulous carrot cake). We were also given a lively Pandora bracelet link each showing our birth stone (mine being aquamarine).  Like my Nominations bracelet, I love it and think its so much nicer getting a keepsake instead of something you've forgotten about 2 weeks later. I was a little annoyed though as the breakfast was so nice, I ate far to much and the promise I'd made to myself on Saturday about dieting all week had been broken by 9:00 am. The problem got worse throughout the day as we continued to munch away on the food, promising ourselves it would be the last piece, then half an hour later going back for more.  What would old Paul McKenna say?  Hmmm, come to think of it, I haven't listened to the CD for about a week, maybe that's were I'm going wrong.  Oh well, there's always tomorrow.

After work there was no time for the treadmill as I had an appointment at the nail salon.  Again for those that know me, will know I have regrettably bitten my nails all of my life.  So, now I am a regular visitor to a local beauty salon where about every 3 weeks I treat myself to a new set of acrylic nails.  When I first started having them done, I used to have for all sorts of crazy designs, but with the job I do, I've had to tone it down a bit.  Plus it was also a little recommendation from my boss lady who links less is better (especially at my age lol).

The salon was extremely quiet, (I usually go on a Saturday morning obviously a busier day).  I spent almost all my time texting and actually writing the draft for this blogg.  It's not really easy though writing a blogg on my Iphone for a number of reasons:

1.  I had to mainly use my thumb as the rest of my fingers were covered in cardboard
2.  The lady brushed and filed rigorously whilst I swapped from left to right every now and then.
3.  My eye sight is bad enough but I kept missing the letters and pressing backspace or delete or full stops when I didn't want to.

So, that was it, my day of carrot cake and nail salons. Who knows what today will bring?
